The Charlotte Moms Healthy Families Giveaway

Happy New Year! We hope that you had a fun and safe day yesterday ringing in the New Year. With tradition many people make resolutions to improve themselves and life for their families. Are you one of those people? Whether it’s something you are promising to do by turning a new leaf for the holiday or a value or trait you are trying to work on all year-round we know, as parents, we’re always looking to better the way we live.

A few tips this year to make your goals attainable.

1. Make one or two resolutions. If you set too many goals for yourself you may be frustrated with all the changes or stressed trying to keep up with it all and end up throwing all your changes out. If you take small steps in the direction to better yourself you’ll be more successful.

2. Tell friends and family what your goals are. When you have people counting on  you, people who will hold you accountable for your goals, and to help support you, you will be that much more successful.

3. Don’t set yourself up for failure. Make sure your goals are not set too high to begin with, but also have a plan in place if you don’t hit your goals. Instead of scrapping the goal, give yourself some room for error and to build that new, healthy habit. This also encourages persistence and follow through, something each of us need and is a great trait to pass down to our children.

4. Make it visual. Create a vision board with inspirational words, reminders, photos of things you want to achieve in 2012. Writing tasks to complete your goals down in your calendar, messages on your bathroom mirror, and having physical symbols of your aspirations help make those dreams even more achievable.

Last, but most important:

5. Be in prayer. Philippians 4:13 – ” I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” If our goals are founded in the Lord, and His will, He wants us to accomplish them. Pray not that you are able to do everything you have resolved to do, but pray that He will give you the knowledge to know what His plan for you is, and that you will have the tools and help from Him to do so, and be sure to give Him the glory when those things are achieved.

We believe that healthy families are happy families, and by healthy we mean inside and out, all-over wellness. We want to give you some gifts this month to encourage and support you, and your family, in your quest to grow. Some of our favorite local companies have given their services, and gift cards because they believe in you too.

I want my family healthy in 2012 for many reasons, but the main one is to help my kids grow stronger.

Both of my children have health issues and we have started a gluten free and casein free diet. This has been working wonders for all of us.
It is not easy and is expensive, but the positive effects it is having on my family is well worth the sacrifices…..

    • Jenn says:

Lisa we hope to post some gluten free recipes on our site as well. We applaud you for looking out for your family’s health!!! Also don’t forget to head over to the individual giveaways to let us know which prizes you are interested in!!

  3. Kim says:

The first step to any “change” is to evaluate the process youre currently doing. For the next 365 days (- the days ready passed) I’m writing down what my kids have for dinner. I want to prove that a full time working mom can still ensure her kids (and herself and husband) are eating nutrious meals at least once during the day and in my watch. Maybe they are eating too much fast food or pre-packaged meals but that is what I’m going to find out. Then, come 2013, I’ll be ready with a battle plan to either continue with what I’m feeding them or shift gears and make necessary changes.

  4. Lollie Haselden says:

My husband and I just ha our first child, and we are making a conscious effort to make healthy decisions right off the bat. Both of our sets of parents say that their only regret from raising us is that healthy eating and family exercise were not priorities, and we want to correct that in this generation.

    • Jenn says:

Lollie, I grew up the same way and agree that it’s important to train our kids to be healthy from the get go. Although it’s not always easy when the kids get older and you’re rushed there are awesome ways to help. So glad you and your husband are giving your child a healthy start and who knows maybe they’ll keep on track with their own kiddos!! Thanks for sharing and good luck! Don’t forget to go to the prize pages to enter so we know what prizes you’re interested in.

  5. Julianna says:

I am going to up my running to get to 2000 miles in 2012! By running more, that means my family moves more because some of my miles include my husband and daughter riding next to me on their bike or rollerblades! I want each of us to know what it’s like to live life ‘to it’s fullest’! That’s why we also make time for quality family time on a regular basis. Family game nights, indoor picnics (during cold months), movie nights, painting time, etc!

  6. Michele says:

We like to eat healthy to keep our bodies energized, strong, and disease-free! I always serve fresh fruits and veggies at lunch and dinner. I set out a tray of them on the table while I am prepping the main meal, and the kids get in their servings of veggies and fruit for the day. And I get to finish lunch/dinner without hearing, “I’m hungry!” :)

  7. We are working on becoming a healthier family by eating more veggies, fruits and eliminating foods that are over processed.

  8. Jereka Hunt says:

I want my family to get healthier in 2012 to set an example for our friends and family members. Heart disease has been a issue for my family in the past, so we are striving to make improvements to our family’s diet. Exercise and movement have never been a major issue for us, so our focus in 2012 will be upon dietary improvements.
