Ok folks, Valentine’s Day is in a few days and some of us have not had a chance to prepare anything for anyone! Here are a few easy crafts that anyone can do with young children or that parents can do for your children! Or maybe you are a grandparent and want to help your grandchild prepare something special for their parents. The theme of these crafts are hearts, love and appreciation!

three handprints

Hand Print and Poem
Hand prints are great for any special occasion; like birthdays, Mother’s Day and of course, Valentine’s Day.  This is a very simple, yet special project.  The items that you will need include:

  • Paper
  • Paint or stamp pad
  • A pen to write the poem or print it from your computer
  • Glue

Finger Heart Butterfly or Lollypop Butterflybutterfly with heart wings

This is a great idea for classroom Valentine’s Day gifts if your child has a smaller classroom or you have some extra time.  You will need:
  • Paper
  • Stamp pad or paint
  • Lollypop if you don’t decide to use paint
  • Hearts for the wings or draw the wings on the paper if you’d like
  • Hole puncher if you decide to use lollypops
Hand Hearts
This is really simple and quick!  Have the child make a heart with their hand, dip it in paint (or stamp pad) then transfer to paper!  To make it a more formal present, frame it.  You will need:
  • Paper
  • Paint/Stamp pad
  • Cute little hands!  (Or big ones if you want to make some for your children)
  • Frame (optional)

Heart Streamer

Circle of Love or Heart Streamer
This may take a little more time but it is still very easy to do.  All you will need to do is cut out several hearts, write “sweetheart” phrases or words like “love,” “hugs,” or “you’re great” and attach it to a piece of cardstock/cereal box/paper plate that you have cut into a circle for the circle of love.  Or if you prefer to create heart streamers, simply attach your sweethearts to a piece of yarn and hang from the doorway.  If  you wish to do this for your child and he/she is a light sleeper then you can hang the streamers from their bedroom door and they will wake up to a wonderful surprise! Materials needed:
  • Colorful construction paperreef
  • Markers
  • Cardstock, paper plate, or cereal box
  • Or if you want to create streamers use yarn
  • Glue or tape (preferably double sided tape if you go the tape route)
  • Scissors
scrollScroll your Love Letter
If you are a caregiver that wants to help a child write a special note for their parents or if you are a parent who wants to write a special note for your spouse or child — “scroll it!”  Write your special thoughts, roll it up and tie ribbon around it to create a lasting memory.
You will need:
  • Paper
  • Pen
  • Ribbon
**It is very important to express love to your children because it truly impacts them in so many ways.  What we do for our children right NOW, matters LATER when they are adults!  So be your child’s first Valentine and create something special for them, from your heart!
What are you doing for your child or children this Valentine’s Day??
