In the early 90′s I remember gathering with fellow classmates to attend my very first See You at the Pole™ event, also known as SYATP. As we met in front of the school at the flagpole, I remember forming a circle and grabbing my neighbors hands as the cool, crisp air kissed our faces. As we bowed our heads in silence I felt nothing less than the presence of the Holy Spirit among us, and it was an amazing experience.
See You at the Pole™ began in 1990 and has multiplied in numbers and locations ever since. In case you aren’t familiar, “See You at the Pole™ is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God. See You at the Pole™ is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.” Talk about the power of an amazing faith!
This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, September 26th, 2012, with the theme Awaken, and the key verses being Ephesians 3:14-21 “For this cause, I bow my knees unto the Father.”
In case you were wondering, school-grounds aren’t the only locations that See You at the Pole™ events are held. Occasionally, churches will plan an event, and for the adult audience meetings can be held around any public location flagpole or even your workplace. {Please check first to make sure that the property your event will be held at is legal/not considered loitering or trespassing before congregating.}
Here’s how you as a parent/grandparent/caregiver can support your student with regards to See You at the Pole™:
Pray for:
- your students and their friends to take part in See You at the Pole™.
- the other students in your community (or church) to take part in See You at the Pole™.
- your youth pastor/leader in your church as he/she motivates and guides students for See You at the Pole™.
- your students’ parents to be supportive of their involvement in See You at the Pole™.
- the non-Christian students that could be reached through See You at the Pole™.
- the Christian students in your community to strengthen their unity on campus all year long.
For those of you homeschooling, or with younger children, take this opportunity to explain the reasons behind See You at the Pole™ and teach them how important prayer really is. This movement made such a huge impact on myself and others through the over 20 years since it’s beginnings, and really got us thinking about what the world needs and what prayer is. Please remember prayer doesn’t end at the pole, but sometimes that’s where it begins.

*To find out if your local school/church is participating please call or email them directly.
We’d love to hear your story, do you remember your first SYATP? Is your child participating in See You at the Pole™ this year? Do you know of local places hosting this event.
Thank you for helping us to spread the word!!
