Did you know that ninety percent of the cells in and on your body are not your own?
Discovery Place will reopen THEM, an original exhibition that first debuted during the Museum’s renovation, on Saturday, May 12. THEM offers guests an inside, microscopic look at the plethora of bacteria, microbes, parasites and other microorganisms that inhabit the human body and helps develop an appreciation for the importance these unseen inhabitants play in our health.
Visitors to THEM can get up close and personal with their own bodily inhabitants while touching three-dimensional sculptures of microorganisms, viewing live bacteria samples through a microscope, engaging in virtual battles between native and invading bacteria on state-of-the-art Microsoft surface tables and more, all while making discoveries of epidemic proportions such as:
· How human behavior can impact – positively and negatively – the microbial make-up of their
bodies;
· The benefits that bacterial microorganisms provide to human health;
· A clearer picture of current human health concerns.
Presented by Carolinas Medical Center, entry to THEM is free with Museum admission.
Discovery Place is located in uptown Charlotte at 301 N. Tryon Street.
