Live it Up – Fresh! Expo Charlotte and The Green

Fresh Expo CharlotteLast week I attended the Fresh! Expo, with my 3 year old son in tow. We visited the vendors and got a little insight into healthy living. One of the most difficult challenges as a parent has been keeping healthy foods and habits in mix. I try to explain the benefit of eating things that keep our body healthy.

If you’re like me the terms GMO, Organic, Green and Sustainable living are ones you have heard but may not fully understand. Educating people on these is exactly what the Fresh! Expo was all about.

As soon as we stepped in there was something to learn. Where to find local growers, dairy free ice cream (Coconut Bliss), gluten free pizza (Fuel), flameless candles (Scentsy), organic snacks (Happy Family) and healthy living advice were just some of the favorites my son was drawn to.

For a complete list of vendors visit the Fresh! Expo website: http://www.thefreshexpo.com/

In my search for cheap parking for this event, I lucked upon The Green parking deck, located directly across the street from the Charlotte Convention Center where the Fresh Expo was held. What a great, unique way to get in a day’s fun and exercise in.

Fit Kids

While we were there, my son got to toss the ball with some young boys on one of the three lawn tiers, and “meet” St. Ignatius in the mediation garden. We even watched some photo shoots including two wedding sessions. Out of everything we saw and did though my son was most amazed by the huge “three fish water fountain”. He began chasing the timed fountains and sticking his hand in them and then he asked if he could get completely wet. After some hesitation, I conceded figuring it would be one of the last warm days of the year and splashing in a fountain is just one of those things kids should just get to do. Right?!?

All in all this was one of the best afternoons my son and I have had together, just the two of us, since his little sister was born and it was FREE! So, if you’re looking for a way to spend a beautiful fall afternoon before the chill of winter creeps in, head into Uptown Charlotte and visit The Green.
