It was two years ago that TheCharlotteMoms.com was launched. We started with 5 writers in various topics and since then a lot has changed both on and off the website. What was once a great resource for local parents, grandparents and caregivers in the Greater Charlotte area, was transformed.
Our site was originally built on plans to engage and help, but also to uplift parents in the area. TheCharlotteMoms.com was birthed, out of a need from those who reached out to my national blog with Charlotte-focused events, products, questions, that related to Charlotte families. With little to spare on the time and energy front, columnists were essential to this magazine style blog to help it function and grow. With the help of my amazing husband and some very late nights, the site was up and running on February 1, 2011.
Through our time posting and building up content on TheCharlotteMoms.com writers came and went, had major life changes, grew their passions in different directions, got new jobs, and even moved out of the area. It wasn’t until one writer came on board and asked if she could write a prayer or discuss a Bible verse in her column, that God really spoke to me.
He asked me why I was building up my own kingdom and not His. With these amazing, talented women, and a great opportunity to further Jesus’ work here on Earth, I had lost track of what was truly important. It’s so cool looking back to see how God works, because each of the writers that were currently on staff already had a personal relationship with Him. And so, behind the scenes in November ’11 we prayed and spoke about changes to the site that would forever change the face of TheCharlotteMoms.com in an amazing way.
Last February 1st, exactly one year ago today, we announced our new purpose with our Mission Statement and posted our Statement of Faith on our site, even though we had already begun to integrate our faith into our posts. Since then, God has blessed the site with amazing women of God, who have a passion to serve others and share their own knowledge by writing about life as a parent in the Charlotte area.
Looking back, we’ve come a long way from February 1, 2011. Then, we were building up our own kingdom, collecting our own treasures, and sharing excitement in our own victories, but God had other plans. He asked that we turn our eyes to Him, and build up His Kingdom, a Kingdom that will not crumble, one that will not fail. The road to figuring out what God wants from this ministry and how we can best service Charlotte families has not been easy, as many who’ve come before us, but we press on to what we know is true and trust that God will lead us every.single. step of the way. And you know what?? He is faithful!
Do you ever feel like the tasks that you take on or the jobs that you perform, are all to build up your kingdom and are only for your benefit? {I do regularly, and am constantly failing.}
Matthew 6:33 tells us, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” NIV
The Lord wants us to live for Him and be faithful to Him. If you are struggling with things that are leading you down a path that doesn’t lead to God, please prayerfully consider changing how you are living and what/who you are living for. It doesn’t need to be an overnight change, but if God is speaking to YOU, right now, He has plans for YOU and wants to use YOU to glorify His name. Won’t you build up His Kingdom?
Looking forward, we pray that our website and work, as a whole can be a service to all of the greater Charlotte area, all parents, grandparents and caregivers out there looking for a resource. You don’t have to believe in God to read our site, or comment on our blog posts, or to get something beneficial from our blog, but we pray that if you are curious or want to know more about our faith that you will ask us. We are just like you, trying to find the best way to raise our children in this area, and only hope that we can uplift and support you in the name of God.
Here’s to however long God allows us to serve Him in this particular way, we are blessed to be part of this journey and thankful that you are coming with us.
