Fridays around m
y house mean party foods. Easy, bite-sized, pop-in-your mouth wonders. Think pizza, appetizers and finger foods that escape the fork and knife weekly grind. Setting aside the casserole dish and introducing some unique definitions on dinner, entices my family to get in a party mood. The power of food sets the stage for a grand weekend.
Since we are officially in the throws of football season, this little appetizer is the perfect accompaniment to my party food menu for the evening. My aunt introduced me to this recipe and there has been no turning back. We’re hooked!
Bacon is all the rage right now – from cupcakes to ice cream, there isn’t much that bacon hasn’t been paired with. Wrap it around a smokie link and sprinkle it with brown sugar and this combination screams for you to eat the whole pan. I make no insinuations to my overwhelming cravings for this amazing appetizer. Don’t judge. Or tell my husband that I had to make two pans. We’re keeping that between you and me. I blame it on my tastebuds. They were out of control that day. Enough – I’m telling you how to make them.
Ingredients
1 pound of mini smoked sausage links
1 package of bacon, cut into thirds
1 handful of brown sugar
toothpicks
Take each sausage link and wrap it in a third of a slice of bacon, securing with a toothpick. Place on a foil lined baking sheet (trust me on the foil, thank me later). Sprinkle with brown sugar and bake at 325 for 30ish minutes, giving them a flip midway through the baking so all sides get the chance to be equally crispy and fabulous. I’m a crisp bacon fan. The chewey bacon just doesn’t do it for me. You can have your own bacon convictions, mine must be crispy.
Enjoy these – they disappear quickly, especially when you have boys. Boys like bacon. And miniature sausages. And anything remotely sweet. These are all of the above so I have to make them in ginormous proportions.
Have a wonderful Fall weekend and don’t forget to go to church on Sunday!
