Home Organization – Create an Art Gallery Wall

School has started back again, and the papers are flying through the door. Permission slips, information forms, syllabi, and the wonderful artwork that your children bring home.

How much “artwork” does your child bring home every week? What do you do with this artwork? Throw it away? Hang on the refrigerator for weeks on end?

Children love to make things because it is an expression of who they are and a way to be creative. I loved the holidays in school because the coloring projects seem to pour in. I was the queen of coloring with my color coded box of crayons after all.

In order to display the artwork in a visually appealing away that matches mommy’s style with children style, I suggest creating an art gallery wall.

Hang and display each piece that comes through the door for one week. Your children will love it! And you will love that it’s not on the refrigerator door.

At the end of each week, pull down each piece and ask your child to pick their favorite one. That piece will go in a special memento box, or a file box, that will later be sorted through. The rest will go in the garbage.

It will take some training and coercing in getting your little one to pick their favorite. Their habits are formed just like ours, in 21 days. Give it three weeks and the tantrums will stop. They will be proud to select their best art, and say goodbye to the rest. Besides they have more important things to worry about, like homework. ;)
